چکیده

This paper gives an introduction to the problem of mapping simple polygons with autonomous agents. We focus on minimalistic agents that move from vertex to vertex along straight lines inside a polygon, using their sensors to gather local observations at each vertex. Our attention revolves around the question whether a given configuration of sensors and movement capabilities of the agents allows them to capture enough data in order to draw conclusions regarding the global layout of the polygon. In particular, we study the problem of reconstructing the visibility graph of a simple polygon by an agent moving either inside or on the boundary of the polygon. Our aim is to provide insight about the algorithmic challenges faced by an agent trying to map a polygon. We present an overview of techniques for solving this problem with agents that are equipped with simple sensorial capabilities. We illustrate these techniques on examples with sensors that measure angles between lines of sight or identify the previous location. We give an overview over related problems in combinatorial geometry as well as graph exploration.

A Fast Algorithm for Covering Rectangular Orthogonal Polygons with a Minimum Number of r-Stars

Introduction This paper presents an algorithm for covering orthogonal polygons with minimal number of guards. This idea examines the minimum number of guards for orthogonal simple polygons (without holes) for all scenarios and can also find a rectangular area for each guards. We consider the problem of covering orthogonal polygons with a minimum number of r-stars. In each orthogonal polygon P,...

Single-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons

We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...

Map-merging in Multi-robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping Process Using Two Heterogeneous Ground Robots

In this article, a fast and reliable map-merging algorithm is proposed to produce a global two dimensional map of an indoor environment in a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) process. In SLAM process, to find its way in this environment, a robot should be able to determine its position relative to a map formed from its observations. To solve this complex problem, simultan...

Mapping Historical Water-Supply Qanat Based On Fuzzy Method. An Application to the Isfahan Qanat (Isfahan, Iran)

According to the geographical location of Iran, it enjoys both arid and semi-arid weather, which has been the cause of water shortage problems. Therefore, water has been one of strategic importance in Iran. When the population dramatically increased in ancient Iran, the demand for supplying water also increased simultaneously and brought about the need for the invention of a new way for supplyi...

A new core-based morphing algorithm for polygons

Morphing is a process of shape transformation between two objects. This paper focuses on morphing of simple polygons. In general, the key part of most morphing methods is to find correspondence between vertices of both objects. We present a new algorithm trying to avoid this step. Using an idea of intersection of two polygons (called core) the problem of morphing polygons is decomposed to sever...
